Navigon 2100 Maps

  • January 2008 Revision 1.0 comes with a United States map of the 48 contiguous states. Comes with maps of the 48 contiguous United States, Alaska, NAVIGON 2100/2120 User’s Guide NAVIGON, INC. Page 72: View Information On The Current Map.
  • To update a NAVIGON GPS device such as the NAVIGON 2100, you must register your device with the NAVIGON website. Once you've registered, you can download and install the NAVIGON Fresh application, which you can use to download map and system software updates for your NAVIGON 2100 unit.
  • The Navigon 2100 comes packaged with a car charger, a vehicle mount (windshield and dash), an SD card preloaded with U.S. Maps, and reference material.

The downloadable Update 1.1 contains the software and maps. You will have to recreate your Favorites and Home location. Update The update only contains the software. I forgot how I got the Navigon software on a second SD card. I used Navigon Fresh to backup the SD card to my computer. I restored it to a second card.

  • thx
but on navigonusa.com dosen´t show the latest map. only the option fresh map is given. I had the USA Nordamerikakarte (Q4/2008)
    look at http://www.navigon.com/site/de/de/maps_services/products/finder/30
  • My latest update for US maps is Q1 2009 on my 7200T. Apparently you can only purchase USA maps from a different country. Can't you purchase Fresh Maps and download the latest map version to your 2100? The updates are done using the application called Navigon Fresh.
If you are asking where you can download an illegal copy of US maps then we can't help you here.
  • oh,thx so much
i have heard somthing about a rand mc nally maps. is this a separat map or a kind of POI´s?
  • Rand McNally’s Scenic Routes and City Guides provide comprehensive travel information to aide NAVIGON device owners during the trip planning process and while they are on the road. The estimated MSRP is $19.99 each.
    * Best of the Roads®. Rand McNally’s famous series of scenic driving trips information on dining, attractions and lodging.
    * Customizable Trips. Create the trips you want by deleting parts of the trip that don’t fit your interests.
    * Detailed City Guides. Overviews of the most visited attractions, museums and landmarks, plus nightlife spots.
    * National Coverage. More than 1400 cities with coverage in all 50 US states and Canada.
I don't know how many cities you get for that price. Possibly only one city or possibly in some large metro areas such as Washington, DC/Baltimore you would get more than one. Don't know if it is available yet or IF it ever will be since rumor has it that Navigon is pulling out of the US market. So far it has only been mentioned in press releases and does not exist as a purchasable item on either Navigon or Rand McNally web sites or anywhere that I have found.

Hello all, I am new here on this forum but I am in no way a GPS novice.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 370 as my main GPS unit and I purchased a Navigon 2100 for my wife as a gift.
I have a questions about the POI's on the Navigon or lack of them.
Here is what I noticed. I live in the USA, North East and when traveling in CT I searched for Costco or Bj's wholesale club and the navigon did not show me any results. I even want as far as to enter the exact town in CT where the store was located but it still did not find it in the database.
Is this a common thing with Navigon that POI's such as retail stores are not listed in it's database? Just for kicks I also searched for Walmart and also got back no info.
Now to complicate matters I even picked up the Navigon 7100 maps from a ebay vendor, loaded these onto a memory card and use those in the 2100 and same results no costco, bj's or walmart. Is this normal?
My garmin finds all of the stores without a pause.
Strange that the navigon 7100 maps would not have this info.
Anyone have similar issues with their navigon gps?
Thanks. Doug

  • Checkout the How Many POIs paragraph in that link.
  • Thank you for your reply and link to the other forum post. I am a little disappointed that even after upgrading the maps on my 2100 with the 7100 series maps that even large retail stores are not listed. I can see not having all the mom and pop pizza shops but not showing large big box retailers seems like a oversight.
    Thanks. Doug
  • Understand your dissapointment. But with garmin you get no lifetime traffic. Personally I know where the big box stores are locally and have little need to find one when traveling. Traffic and cost issues made the navigon my preferred gps. I have no experience with garmin but both lowrance and navigon customer support is outstanding.

Maybe. Did you select the categories of the POI you wanted to be displayed? You may have these turned off. I keep most of the categories turned off until I need to find them.
  • I have noticed that some chains like Wall Mart are not there and yet some smaller stores are there. I wonder if they need a license to list chains?
The Garmin database is bigger, but it also lacks some things that the Navigon has. Both are bad with POIs while en-route.
Navigon allows a full POI search, but you still need a passenger to do it.
The 1.2 update should offer more POIs and possibly a way to add new ones, but I don't expect too much.

    Hi Doug,
How did you get the 7100 POI's on your 2100? I just purchased the 2100 Max and am definitely interested as I realized this shortcoming before purchase. I've heard you can do it but don't have information on the specifics.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Robert
  • Motoradder, Yeah I turned on all the POI's on the unit. Even after the map updates I still do not get the bigger retailers.
Robert, I Got the new 7100 series maps on a SD card. Here's what I did : copied the entire contents of the 2100 card to desktop , did the same on the 7100 card . Created a new folder on desktop , dragged & dropped the MN6 (latest update files downloaded from Navigon's site) and the Autorunce from the 2100 folder , then dragged & dropped the RealityView , POI , Alaska map , Hawaii map , Puerto Rico map & US and Canada maps from the 7100 folder . Copied this new folder to a 2 GB SD card , inserted it in the unit & turned it on ...now I got a 2100 body with a 7100 maps . Took it for a spin , worked beautifully.

  • Robert, I Got the new 7100 series maps on a SD card. .
    Doug
This might be a silly question, but how did you get the 7100 maps on SD card? was that a purchase @ navigon.com?
I just got my 2100 max yesterday and so far, I'm pretty pleased with it - the only drawback so far are the number of POI. I appreciate your help. :)
    Robert
p.s. I did check on the navigon site and I didn't find a place for this type of download/purchase.
  • Robert, I purchased the maps from a vendor on ebay. The vendor had them on a sd card and the original CD.
I'm not sure how legal this is but the CD was an original since it looks like the seller was selling all the parts of his old 7100 series gps.

  • Thanks for the info Doug... I'll take a look myself. I'm also looking into some software called POIWarner that apparently loads onto the PND and you can add/manipulate POI wiht that tool. At this moment however, I am unable to get the Microsoft Active Sync to recognize my 2100 max.
thanks again for the help. Do you have the 2100 or the 2100 max btw?
  • Using a new backup SD card with 7100 maps and information, you'll need:
System files from your 2100's MN6 folder:
    BinaryDialogFilenames.xml
    HardwareLayer.dll
    MN6ResourcesBinary.res
    MN6.exe
Will need TMCIF.dll if you have traffic activated.
    User data and settings:
The following files and folders will need to be copied from your original MN6 folder and placed into the new MN6 folder:
    − NaviLib.ini
    − SettingsUserSettings.xml
    − SettingsUserData.xml
    − SettingsUserSettingsOrientation.xml
    − SettingsUserSettingsLanguage.xml
    − SettingsRecent.storage
    − SettingsFavorites.storage
    − SettingsRoutes folder
− SettingsSpeech Recognition folder (7100 products only)
    − LogBook folder
Map files are in the root directory of your GPS device.
